Robal Glass is a new material made of 100% recycled glass in a clear, soy-based resin that is being used to make eco-friendly furniture like the table shown here from Rochester, NY based Green Grove Designs rescues the glass from landfills, after which it is sterilized before being made into Robal Glass products, which are 82 per cent or more recycled glass content by weight.

While still in the developmental stages, solar powered shingles, which would consist of a felxible, thin transparent film barrier placed over a roof like shingles, may one day replace solar panels. Dubbed flexible solar shingles, they use a thin film technology that was developed in the 1990s.

Four of the rooms at the Hotel de Vrouwe van Stavoren in the Netherlands are made from recycled wine casks. And yes, in case you're wondering they are definitely larger than your average wine barrel at 14,500 litres vs. the 225 litres or approximately 59 gallons you're probably used to seeing. Each wine cask is large enough to accommodate two single beds with a sitting room and bathroom.

SolarDuct PV/T combines solar photovoltaic and solar thermal in a single roof top unit and are based on the previously developed SolarDucts technology that is used to remove heat from the back of traditional solar panels. Using this technology reduces onsite energy costs because ventilation air is heated before it enters the air handling units.

Preserve has a number of wonderful green products some of which have been featured here on The Eco-Modernist previously, but I just had to mention these colorful, recycled plastic colanders too. I've been searching high and low for a magazine rack that is both modern and green...and finally found it. Available in black (shown here) and white, Crease in black is made from 100% recycled plastic, a single sheet of polypropylene plastic that's also easy to recycle when you're done with it. Made by Scottish company Blue Marmalade, it arrives in recycled cardboard packaging. 45cm long x 22cm high x 22.5cm deep (18x9x8.5in).

Sustainable building materials are where it's at these days, especially in the kitchen. These sinks are made from at least 80% recycled stainless steel and are as functional as they are beautiful. They are also recyclable of course, but with a sink like this who would want any other?

These recycled water bottle lampshades are a terrific use for used water bottles. Even more cool is that you make them yourself. Search around the web and you'll see plenty of do it yourself instructions. That said however, the lovely table lamp to the left is from UK designer Sarah Turner and is made from 10 coca cola bottles (500 ml. size).

Here's a great way to recycle those shopping carts you see thrown over the side of the road or into a swamp. Just kidding, sort of...Fondly known as Annie's shopping trolley chair, the shopping cart chair was born in 2001. I'd say it's a great use for the retired shopping cart and although I've never tried one but it looks pretty comfortable to me!
